Breastfeeding Guidelines
Breastfeeding should be initiated within the first hour of birth. If not possible, mom should start pumping within 6 hours or when safe to do so.
48 hours after delivery, your baby should be nursing at least 8 to 12 times per day.
After feeding, baby appears satisfied.
Signs Breastfeeding is going well
Days 1-3 baby should pass at least 2 stools and 2-3 wet diapers daily
Days 3-5 baby should have at least 3 stools and 3-5 wet diapers daily
Day 5 or older baby should have 3-4 stools and 6-8 wet diapers daily
By week 6, baby should have 6-8 heavy wet diapers daily. Stools varies from several per day to an exceptional large amount every few days.

Breast milk comes in plentiful amounts by days 3-5.
Your baby should be seen by a pediatric specialist by one week of birth.
Your baby should be growing and gaining his birth weight by
Day 10-14.
If you are having breastfeeding difficulties, seek the assistance of an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant).
When to SEEK Medical Attention
Seek immediate help from your Pediatrician or emergency personnel if:
Baby is NOT eating, Not having stools, Not urinating,
or if baby is yellow, pale, blue, Not breathing normally,
will Not wake up, has a fever, uncontrollably crying, or does not appear well to you.
